The Sage Advice Process

This is a simple and yet profound process you can do with no previous knowledge of NLP – just a good imagination!

1.    Sit across from an empty chair. Close your eyes, relax, breathe slowly and deeply. Begin to think of the very distant future.

2.    Let an image of an ancient and wise you form in the chair in front of you. This is an ancient you who has reached all of your potential. This older you is not sick, but is at the end of life. Very near death. Because this ancient you knows all about you, your past and future, he or she looks at you with complete understanding, acceptance and love. Be sure to notice the posture and depth and rate of breathing of the future you. Look at your future body.

3.    Take your time and ask (aloud or silently), a personal question or two that only this future you could answer. Notice that the ancient one hears your question, but does not answer you yet. Nod your head when you’re finished.

4.    Keeping your eyes closed, leave your younger body in your chair by slowly and gently standing up. Slowly turn around and sit down into and become this ancient and wise future you. Take on his/her body posture and breath-ing style. Fully become this very old man or woman.

5.    Now that you are “being” the ancient you, take your time and answer `(aloud or silently) the questions which the younger you asked. Allow your-self to add anything the younger you needs to know. Nod your head when you’re finished.

6.    Keeping your eyes closed, leave the body of your ancient self in the chair by slowly and gently standing up.  Slowly turn around and sit down into your younger body. Breathe. And feel the vitality and strength and vigor of your younger body. Now, take your time and listen to the ancient you give the answers to the questions you asked.

7.    Take another moment to notice how you feel about your ancient and wise self. Thank your ancient self, reach out and pull him or her into your heart.

  1. This is an amazingly powerful process I have used it successfully with a person suffering from muscular dystrophy. Thank you Robert for showing me this process.
