NLP is often confused with therapy. While a powerful modality in that context, it is useful in many more areas. In reality it is like a suite of Power Tools for negotiating your way to the life you want. Two perspectives on this today:
- The Computer-Science Bubble Is Bursting – Better than a Comp Sci degree? Oh yes. As they say, it has legs. It’ll run.
“It’s actually quite risky to go to school to learn a trade or a particular skill, because you don’t know what the future holds. – David Deming, Harvard; “As they develop the soft skills that employers consistently seek out, (Deming’s) research shows that male history and social-science majors end up out-earning their engineering and comp-sci counterparts in the long term.” – Atlantic - Rebranding: Why human power skills – formerly known as ‘soft skills’ – are the key to business success
Better described as power skills, for that is what they are, the recent turmoil in the tech world once again highlights their importance. Starting from different points, and perhaps a bit ahead of the curve, both these stories point to the same conclusion:
For long-term success, it’s not today’s tech that does the job. What are the human power skills for the job? Those will keep you secure no matter today’s fads in tech or the corporate world.
Naturally, if you want to have that absolute mastery of human power tools, NLP provides you with an unmatched set.
Power, real power, resides only in people. After all, we created the concept, didn’t we? It’s about time this was rebranded. AI, algorithms, VR, and so on are only important as and when they influence humans.
We are it, we are the builders of our world. As such we are the only assessors of value. AI is a secondary set, and we are the gods who originated both AI and the very idea of value. And by the way, we don’t require a nuclear reactor to imagine how to cook rice.
This is perhaps the most accurate and valid rebranding in business, and the most needed. Called soft by those who failed to understand them, these are the vital people skills that build companies that last.
These mislabeled skills are the only skills that are a lasting need. Technical skills are subject to obsolescence, sometimes even before finishing a degree.
Here’s some depth on it:
