Personal Change & Growth

The virus of the season

It’s that time of year again.  The time of year when stores sell out of Vitamin C, doctor’s offices and Urgent Care waiting rooms are full of coughing people and sniffling kids, and call in rates at work skyrocket! That’s right…it’s cold and flu season. It seems everywhere I look someone is starting to feel sick, in the thik of it, or just getting over it.  It knocked me out for a week and a

State management in a crisis
Beginning NLP

Are you acting or reacting? (State Management through a teenager’s eyes)

My youngest daughter, Hannah, is 17 and has been working on finding her way in the world. She is busy being an entrepreneur and working hard to share her message that yes, one person can make a difference. She is also directionally challenged, so the whole experience of driving has been, shall we say, interesting? Well, in late August 2015 she was driving home from having brunch with a friend and she was hit by

Movie review and the Disney Creativity Model

Last Friday two friends and I saw the movie Saving Mr. Banks, the story of how Walt Disney finally convinced author P.L. Travers to give him the rights to make a musical of her book Mary Poppins. It took him 20 years to accomplish the task! The trailers for the movie had me expecting a funny, frivolous experience – it was anything but that. I highly recommend it, especially to those interested in NLP.

ADAMS, M.A. FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin Mark Hamilton, a seasoned detective, slowly opens the door to the interview room. The witness to the drive-by shooting sits leaning forward in a chair with her head in her hands. Normally, Mark bellows out his introduction to establish immediate control, but not this time. He enters the room

How Our Metaphors Reveal Creative Solutions

Here’s another in our series on metaphors we live by, the ways in which how we describe our lives and situations influences us. The specific metaphors we use, the way we use them and the stories we create with them may limit us, inspire us, or expand our options. Recognizing the ones you use is the first step to understanding they are affecting your life now. In this essay Connirae gives you several examples of

Hearing what other people are really saying

Much is made of metaphor in literature and life. What the early developers of NLP did differently was to take the metaphors people used to describe situations literally. Simple as it seems, this was a revolutionary step.  In a conversation with a friend the other day she said “it was a block (stopping her).” Taking her statement literally, I asked her where the block was and what it looked like. “It’s like this big block

Emotions As Passengers, Not Drivers: Choosing & Changing Your State

A long time ago I promised to make a book using Tom Hoobyar’s NLP stories. He and I got a good start on it, and then life interrupted, and Tom passed on. So Susan Sanders, a good friend and stellar NLP’er, and I took the beginnings of a manuscript Tom H had created and turned it into a completed work. Today you’re getting an excerpt directly from the book, and one you haven’t seen before.
